The William Wates Memorial Trust exists to celebrate the life of William Wates (1977- 1996) who was tragically killed when travelling in South America.

Will was a much-loved young man and is very much missed by his family and friends. We have set up the trust to celebrate his life by trying to shine some light into the lives of young people who have not had the advantages that Will enjoyed. Will was aware of his privileged background and was keen to help others – we feel the aims of the trust reflect where his interests would have been if he was alive today.

The William Wates Memorial Trust is a registered charity set up in 1998 to help disadvantaged young people fulfil their potential, mainly through sporting activities, education and the performing arts.

How do I Fundraise?

If you have registered your interest with us you will receive a sponsorship pack in the post to help you with your fundraising.

We are aiming to raise £500,000 for Will’s trust from the Tour de Force 2010. Our suggested minimum target per rider is £1200.00 + Gift aid. In 2006 the average raised was £2550 + Gift aid so there’s a challenge! Our deadline for raising the suggested minimum of £1200 is April 24th but we will obviously accept further donations after that point!

Online Fundraising

We have joined forces with Bmycharity.com who will help you raise money online for us. Bmycharity is very similar to Justgiving.com but instead of charging 6.4% commission on donations they charge us nothing! Their system is secure, quick and easy to use and they come highly recommended by organisations such as Children with Leukaemia and Oxfam.

Alternatively donors can fill in the sponsorship form that was sent to you in the sponsorship pack. Click here for a copy of the sponsorship form. Please ask your donors to fill in the gift aid section to make their money go further.
